NASA astronaut Jeff Williams (https://goo.gl/6Ic0xd) opened the hatch to the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) at 4:47 a.m. EDT Monday, June 6. Along with Russian cosmonaut Oleg Skripochka (https://goo.gl/FuyNzb), Williams entered BEAM for the first time to collect an air sample and begin downloading data from sensors on the dynamics of BEAM’s expansion.

What is BEAM?
The Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) is an experimental expandable space station module developed by Bigelow Aerospace. It has a living volume of 16 cubic meters (565 cubic feet). It is planned that BEAM will remain with the ISS until 2018 for further testing. Read more on it here:
