Richard Feynman - PHYSICS
Richard Feynman was famous for his lectures to undergraduates, but he also has a reputation for not mentoring many graduate students. Physics Today reveals that reputation is unfounded. Feynman mentored about 30 doctoral students, including George Zweig, who devised a version of the quark model. Feynman also helped with the PhD theses of black hole theorist Don Page and physicist/computer scientist Stephen Wolfram.
"It's about time the record was set straight on this," says one of Feynman's students, physicist Thomas Curtright. "Too many people have expressed amazement to me over the years when I mentioned that I was a Feynman student."
